The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione, which sold for $25,305,000, set a new record as the most valuable car ever auctioned by Gooding Christie’s, and the most valuable Ferrari California Spider to sell at auction. Gooding Christie’s monumental 2025 Pebble Beach Auctions saw the auction house conduct one of its most successful sales since its inception at Pebble Beach. Expanding on that success, the auction house plans to host an expanded calendar of auctions in 2026.

Continuing its longstanding tradition of knockout sales at Pebble Beach since 2004, Gooding Christie’s outdid itself once again this year, reaching an all-out new auction benchmark for the company, with the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione selling for a whopping $25,305,000 with celebrated auctioneer Charlie Ross at the rostrum. The auction house concludes its first year under the Gooding Christie’s banner with a 12% increase in year over year results, having achieved over $231 million in total auction sales — its second highest grossing year to date!

The auction house is now well-poised to start off 2026 with an expanded calendar of auctions, hosting its inaugural European sale, the Rétromobile Paris Auction, as the official auction house of the world-famous French automotive event. With news of its recent hires of EMEA Managing Director Oliver Camelin, and Senior Specialist Consultant James Knight, Gooding Christie’s shows no signs of slowing down its international development. Early announcements for this sale include a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider, as well as a quartet of no-reserve Alfa Romeo 6Cs from the collection of late marque historian Angela Cherrett and her husband Allan. Although there is limited availability, Gooding Christie’s is still consigning cars for this not-to-be-missed Parisian affair for those interested in selling opportunities.

Of course, Gooding Christie’s will return to the Omni Amelia Island Resort in early March to conduct what will surely be yet another round of record-setting auctions at this premier Florida venue. This morning, the team announced the consignment of offerings from the late Curtis Leaverton, a well-regarded motorcycle and car collector. The collection, consisting of 19 motorcycle and vehicle lots from Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Ferrari, Abarth, and Austin-Healey, will be offered entirely without reserve.
