On Thursday morning of Pebble Beach Automotive Week, the vast majority of Pebble Beach Concours entrants rose before the sun to queue up for the 27th annual Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex.

“Over the past 27 years, our enduring partnership with Rolex has helped the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance grow into a marquee event in its own right—one that celebrates the spirit of driving as much as the art of the automobile. The Tour has become both a joyful tradition and an essential component of Concours judging, reminding us that these remarkable cars were built to be experienced on the road,” stated Vice President/Business Development of the Pebble Beach Concours, Sean Jacobs.

The first entrants arrived at 7:00 am and spectators were welcomed to walk amidst the beautiful cars before the Tour took off. Music was playing, photos were taken, and coffee and donuts were enjoyed.

While entrants are not required to participate in the Tour, this year a total of 190 cars did so, heightening the competition on Concours Sunday because cars that complete the Tour get the nod if they tie in class competition.

Leading up to the Ready-Set-Go moment, engines start to roar around 9:30 am as the first group of cars get ready to take off on the Tour. Spectators gather in the row of bleachers set along the start to watch the cars begin their journey. The morning was filled with big smiles, revving engines, and exhilarating anticipation for how the competition would unfold on Concours Sunday.

Following their departure, the cars pass by The Lodge to get their first photo. This photo op has become a tradition over the years, and photos are framed gifts to thank entrants for participating in the Tour.

The midpoint of the Tour comes several miles after Bixby Bridge, when the cars reach Big Sur, turn around and continue their journey back to Pebble Beach. Upon their return, they are welcomed with a luncheon, where they receive their green Tour ribbon for completion.

This year, the luncheon took place at the Mercedes-Benz activation in Concours Village. All Tour participants were invited to enjoy lunch together to kick off the week.

This integral part of Pebble Beach Automotive Week is a rare and thrilling opportunity for people to see many of the participating cars in motion. Not only is it a unique experience for spectators, it also is a time for participants to reunite with fellow participants and friends who are also participating.
