On Thursday morning of Pebble Beach Automotive Week, various Pebble Beach Concours entrants come bright and early to queue up for the 28th annual Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex.

“This year we celebrated 28 years of the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex and it continues to thrive as a marquee event in its own right, celebrating the spirit of driving and the artistry of the automobile”stated Sean Jacobs, Senior Vice President and Tour Director for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Tour has become a cherished tradition and an integral part of Concours judging, offering a meaningful reminder that these extraordinary cars were built not only to be admired, but to be driven and experienced on the open road.”

Spectators gathered around the participating cars before they head out on the Tour.

Tour participants began arriving at 7:00 am to get their spot in line for the drive ahead. Prior to the takeoff, spectators are welcome to walk amidst the beautiful cars, getting a first glance at many of the entrants that will fill the show field on Concours Sunday. The morning is filled with music, photos, coffee and donuts!

While entrants are not required to participate in the Tour, this year a total of 175 cars did so, heightening the competition on Concours Sunday because cars that complete the Tour get the nod if they tie in class competition.

Engines begin to roar as the ready-set-go moments approaches.

Around 9:30 am, engines start to roar as the first group of cars get ready to take off. Spectators stick around to find a good spot on the nearby row of bleachers to watch the cars start their journey. The tour was created with the mindset that “cars are meant to be driven” and to see these amazing cars in action is an unforgettable experience.

Following the first turn of the drive, entrant cars head down the road in a single file.

Following their departure, the cars pass by The Lodge to get their first photo. This photo op has become a tradition over the years, and photos are framed gifts to thank entrants for participating in the Tour.

From here, the cars made their way along 17-Mile Drive towards Highway 1 where they circled around through Aguajito Road, through Scenic Drive, and back to the coastline of 17-Mile Drive passing by Bird Rock and Cypress Point before returning to the Start/Finish.

Upon their return, they are welcomed with a luncheon, where they receive their green Tour ribbon for completion. Cars that participated in the Tour often display their green ribbon on Concours Sunday.

Similar to years past, the Tour luncheon took place at the Mercedes-Benz activation in Concours Village. All Tour participants were invited to enjoy lunch together to kick off the week.

Each year, the Tour d’Elegance serves as an integral part kicking off Pebble Beach Automotive Week. It is a unique and exciting opportunity for people to see many of the participating cars in motion before they are showcased on the 18th fairway on Sunday. Not only is it a unique experience for spectators, it also is a time for participants to reunite with fellow participants and friends who are also participating.
