"The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has often been called the World Series or Super Bowl of the automotive universe, but those descriptions sell this celebration short. If anything, it’s more like the Olympics.”
– The New York Times
"The best car show in the world."
– Jay Leno, as quoted by MSNBC.com
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
Once each year in August about 200 of the most prized collector cars and motorcycles in the world roll onto the fairway of what is often called the best finishing hole in golf — the famed eighteenth at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world. The occasion is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Originally a small social event paired with a road race through the pine and cypress forests of Pebble Beach, the Pebble Beach Concours has grown into the top-ranking collector car competition in the world. People from all over the globe come to compete in or simply witness and enjoy the Concours here at Pebble Beach.
The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of elegance. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style—and the best garner reward and recognition.
17-Mile Drive will be closed to general tourist traffic on Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21, 2016. Only residents, guests of residents, and attendees of Pebble Beach events will be allowed access through the 17-Mile drive gates.
The 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will feature the following marques and special classes:
• Chapron Coachwork
• BMW Centennial
• 50th Anniversary of Ford GT40 Victory at Le Mans
• Two-Man Indianapolis Race Cars 1930–1937
• BMW Motorcycles
Entry applications go out in November and are due in January. Applications are then vetted before the Concours Selection Committee meets in late March to review them. In April, the best cars receive a formal invitation to participate in the Concours.
The success of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance rests in large part on the knowledgeable experts who help to select and judge the automobiles and motorcycles invited to appear on our show field. These experts also make a significant contribution to the automotive world as a whole by helping to establish an accurate record of these vehicles. Click here to MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE CONCOURS.
The automobiles on our show field and the new cars on our concept lawn cover more than a hundred years of automotive style and technology.
